Smith was the founder of Trinity Hall School for Boys in Washington, PA, and was aide-de-camp to Grant during the Civil War; 'Trinity Hall' is stamped on bottom page edges; xviii, 322 & 477 pages; Laid in are three clippings from Supplement to The Guardian from 1863 & 1866, each has something by or about the author, J.M. Neale.
