Nicholas Hlobeczy was a student of Minor White's for 15 years and continues his work in the direction initiated by White. Nicholas credits Minor and others, including Gurdjieff, for providing direction, insights and inspiration in his search for being through photography.
A Presence behind the Lens is about seeing, about light, about a psychological perspective, self-knowledge, and the everyday struggles of the artist. It approaches creativity and its role in human life at the tangent point between one's craft and one's inner life. Hlobeczy has managed to connect this idea with very real personal experiences from his own life, and has made practical suggestions to others who might wish to do the same, without this becoming a "How to book."

Shipping Costs:
Within the U.S. our standard shipping charge is $7.00 for the first book and $1.00 for each additional book This is for priority mail. We will quote faster service upon request. Media mail is also avaialble to $4.00 for the first book plus $1 for each additional book.
Shipping cost for interenational orders will be charged at our cost. They vary greatly, dependant on country and weight. On check out, you may select that we process your order and charge you the cost of shipping or that we quote the shipping cost to you and wait for your approval.
Payment types:
We accept payment by personal check or money order in U.S. dollars or
in British pounds sterling (at the current exchange rate). Payment
should accompany order. Money orders or international drafts drawn on a
U.S. bank are acceptable. Visa, MasterCard and American Express, also
are accepted. Card number, expiration date and name as it is on the
card are required in order to fulfill phone or mailed in orders.
Libraries and institutions will be billed.
Subject to prior sale:
Orders may be reserved by phone, Fax or e-mail. Because many titles
listed are out-of-print and one-of-a-kind it is best to call, write or
Fax about availability of titles, particularly those generally known to
be long out-of-print or scarce. We continue to provide an effective
search service for out-of-print books in many fields. Please send us a
copy of your wants and interests.
Our guarantee:
We have attempted to thoroughly describe all books. However, any item
may be returned within seven days of receipt, for any reason, and will
be refunded in full, provided condition of the book has not changed.
For the protection of your investment and the appearance of your
library we put a protective plastic cover on every book we sell that
has a dust jacket. Although this is relatively common in the
out-of-print book market, it is very rarely done on new books. However,
our appreciation of the books we sell requires that we do what we can
to keep every book sold in the best possible condition for years to
come and to last through multiple readings. If there are any other
